Let the Mountains Sing for Joy

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:1

Let the rivers clap their hands,
Let the mountains sing together for joy
Before the Lord, for He is coming to judge the earth;
He will judge the world with righteousness
And the peoples with equity.
Psalm 98:8-9

I took the above photo this week at Moraine Lake in Banff National Park, Canada. Tara and I spent four days with dear friends exploring and hiking in this awe-inspiring expanse of God’s creation. As we hiked and drove and climbed and just sat looking at the scenery, we were treated to a running commentary by God of His power and glory and dominion and creativity. Over and over again, we all remarked and rejoiced that God was the Author and Designer of all we saw and enjoyed.

At every turn, at every change of the angle of sun or cloud cover, new revelations of God’s masterpiece were put on display for us to see, for everyone to see; and all do see. “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse” (Romans 1:20).

God reveals Himself through what is seen. God reveals Himself though His Word. In these last days God has revealed Himself through His Son. Our response is worship.

That’s all I’ve got to say about this. I’ll let God speak for Himself through His incredible creation. My only counsel this summer is this: take time to observe, listen and learn of what God has revealed of Himself in His creation. The rivers and mountains are calling out to you. “And in His temple everything says, ‘Glory!’” (Psalm 29:9).

    Pastor Ben & Tara, So much joy for you both that God provided for you to do this together! Jim and I were incredibly blessed to spend 2 weeks hiking in the Canadian Rockies together, just the two of us, for our 40th anniversary. We treasure the memory of each moment- to think that it “all” came from who He is, spilled forth at His word- with no prior model or memory to draw from but Himself, unlike human creativity fueled by human exposure and experience. So happy for you- thank you both for sharing your photos and insights with all of us.
