This post is a follow-up message from Pastor Ben's sermon entitled "Ephesians 1-4 Rewind". [Watch video]
As I said Sunday, Ephesians 2:1-10 is the most personal passage in the book for me.
Ephesians 2:1 states, “And you were dead in your trespasses and sins in which you formerly walked…” We used to “walk” this way, and we were “dead.” So in effect, we were the “walking dead.” Not soulless, mindless zombies, but hopeless, helpless creatures who would not and could not respond to God. This is not a description of physical death, but spiritual death. The situation was dire because in this state of spiritual death were were totally unable to change our own spiritual condition.
“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved" (Ephesian 2:4-5).
If it were not for God’s great mercy, love and grace, you and I would still be hopeless and helpless. We would still be the walking dead. But now, we can walk in a manner worthy of our calling. Whether or not you experienced a dramatic conversion O Christian, this is true of you as well. We know it is true because God’s inspired Word tells us so in this passage. You were once dead, you are now alive in Christ.
Is this personal for you as it is for me? If so, take some time each day to thank Him for coming into your life. And then walk in a worthy manner out of deep gratitude for rescuing you from certain death.
