Principles of the Harvest

This post is a follow-up message from Caleb Klontz's sermon entitled "Lift Up Your Eyes!" [Watch video]

“Do you not say, ‘There are yet four months, and then comes the harvest?’ Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.”
(John 4:35)

“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”
(Luke 10:2)

We were challenged in the message last Sunday to consider the harvest that is before us, a harvest of people coming to Christ. Jesus came to do the will of the Father, and his mission was redemption. And remember, His mission, to seek and save the lost, is our mission as well.

As Easter approaches and we consider outreach at Valley Bible Church, here are three simple principles from Jesus’ words about this great harvest:

The Principle of Vision

See what God sees: “Lift up your eyes and look on the fields, that they are white for harvest.” We must be people of vision who take the time to perceive people around us and their great need for the Gospel.

The Principle of Prayer

Jesus directed us to “beseech the Lord of the harvest” for laborers to help bring the lost to salvation. That’s us. We are the workers. This principle is simple: Pray! Pray for God’s glory. Pray for the lost. Pray for your heart for the lost. Pray for boldness and opportunities to invite people to Easter services. Pray that God would use each of us as laborers in His harvest.

The Principle of Expectation

“The harvest is plentiful,” said Jesus. So what should we expect? Results. In faith, in our prayers, in our action we should expect that God will answer our prayers for the lost. After all, that’s why Jesus came, and that’s why He sent us.
